'El Caballito' sculpture unveiled on Rainbow Street in Amman

Amman, May 20 (Petra) – The Mexican Embassy in Jordan and the Greater Amman Municipality on Wednesday unveiled the "El Caballito" (The Little Horse) sculpture by internationally renowned Mexican artist Sebastián on Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Mexico.

The sculpture, gifted by the Mexican people to Jordan, was unveiled during a ceremony at Shibli Al-Bisharat Park attended by Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture for Artistic Affairs Arouba Shamaila, artist Sebastián, members of the Mexican community in Jordan and guests.

Mexican Ambassador to Jordan Jacob Prado González said relations between Jordan and Mexico have steadily grown over the past five decades, founded on mutual respect, cooperation and friendship.

He described "El Caballito" as one of Mexico City's most iconic artworks, noting that the version installed in Amman is a replica of the original and symbolises the twinning relationship between the two capitals.

Shawarbeh welcomed the addition of the sculpture to the heart of Amman as a new cultural and artistic landmark that enriches the city's urban landscape. He reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to supporting public art and integrating creativity into daily city life.

Sebastián said art serves as a universal language that strengthens friendship and understanding across borders. He voiced hope that the sculpture would become a lasting symbol of cooperation and cultural exchange between Jordan and Mexico.
